Why did all of my Bookmarks/Favorites disappear?

I did not receive advance notice of the change, nor did I agree to it. I maintained a comprehensive well -structured source for My Favorites over a period of years and now they have disappeared. Please restore My Bookmarks/Favorites without destroying any of my data.
